CASE-ing Kimberly

Two posts simultaneously from me today.  Click here for my Mixed Media Card Challenge design team post.

Did you play along with CASEplorations last month?  We've got another one for you today.  This month we're CASE-ing this gorgeous card by Kimberly Weiner:

So, what are the elements to CASE?
Theme: Butterfly
Overall design: CAS
Background: strong colour, flecked with water (yummy!)
Focal point: one large patterned die-cut
Design elements: small die-cuts, textured streamers
Sentiment: single bold text

So here's my CASE:

I stayed with the butterfly theme, reversed the background by flicking orange Distress Ink onto white card, then used the orange background on my focal panel which I stamped with a butterfly from Trendy Butterflies.  I added a little machine stitching down the butterfly for interest.  I used some butterfly washi tape and herringbone tape.

From the same stamp set I used the small butterfly, inking just the edges with Broken China and spritzing before stamping.  By just inking the edges, it puts just enough ink on the stamp to cope with the spritzing - completely inking the stamp and then spritzing just gives you a stamped puddle with no definition.  Ask me how I know ;)

Because I stamped the main image in black, and there's a lot of black in the washi tape, I decided not to add a sentiment as it would just fight with the black that's already there.  When CASE-ing, you don't have to include every element from the original card - just pick and chose whatever inspires you from that card.

Here's another look at Kimberly's and my cards alongside each other:
