STAMPlorations 5th Birthday Spotlight

Hello!  Today it's my turn to share some oldies but goodies with you and a couple of new cards with old and new stamps as part of STAMPlorations 5th Birthday Celebrations.  You can join in the fun by CASEing any of my cards from this post, or indeed any of the cards from STAMP team members' June posts.  There are over $500 worth of prizes to be won - you can find all the details on the main blog post here.

So.  The brief was, show your top three STAMPlorations cards.  How do I choose?  I have so many favourites!  But I've got to say, one of my all-time favourite stamps is the kookaburra/kingfisher from the Small Birds set, and this card is my favourite (you can see the post here).  Actually I've got more favourites from this stamp set, which you can see on my Pinterest board here.

Small Birds

I love this party dress - I'd love to have worn one in real life, back in the day!

Party Dresses CityGirl

This next one reminds me of so many mediterranean holidays.  I made it for an artist-inspired series that I did as spotlight posts for STAMPlorations

Houses
So, those are the oldies, and here are a couple of newbies.  First up is a card using the new birthday stamp and dies on a smooshed background:

Birthday Bash Make A Wish
And my next card is using my oldie but goodie Party Dresses set.

Hope you're enjoying these designer posts during the STAMPlorations birthday bash, and if you decide to play along, good luck!

Seize The Beachy Birthday

It's time for a new Seize The Birthday challenge, and this time our optional topping is Beachy Birthday.  Or you can just play along with any birthday-themed project.

I used a piece of cartridge paper from my stash that I'd brayered some turquoise Dylusions acrylic paint over.  For the sand, I smeared Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxides.  The 'fence' is a Carabelle Studio stamp from the 'Edges in My Journal' set was inked up with Frayed Burlap.  Once I'd heat-set all that I overstamped in Peacock Feathers and heat-set that.

The poster stamp is by Tim Holtz.  Having coloured it, I'd put it to one side while I made the background - not far away enough, it seems, because I ended up stamping over the top bit while I was stamping the background panel.  Tried to remove it with a wet brush, but then changed my mind and overstamped that too.  And splattered the card base.

STAMPlorations 5th Birthday Bash!

It's STAMPlorations' 5th birthday, and we've got a month-long celebration for you with loads of inspiration and three ways to win great prizes!

The Inspiration team have the pleasure of kicking off the proceedings, and we're all using the new birthday stamps and dies.  I've used pieces of a masterboard as my backgrounds for those yummy cakes, and added die-cut sentiments.

Once you've made a masterboard, you can cut it down to various sizes and you've got instant background or collage pieces.

You can use contrasting or complementary colours for your diecuts.  Believe it or not, the diecut on the first card is bright purple.  Somehow the camera doesn't like purple.  I like how it captures the different colours the mirri card diecut on the second card, though.

The birthday cake images make a great focal point.

And if you don't want to use diecuts, there are some fab coordinating sentiments in the stamp sets.  And before you know it, you've got a little stash of birthday cards :)

Pop on over to the STAMPlorations blog for bucketloads of inspiration from the rest of the team, and all the details on how to link up and win prizes.

Craft Stamper Take It, Make It

It's a new month and a new challenge at Craft Stamper Take It, Make It.  As always, it's Anything Goes as long as you use physical rubber or polymer stamps.

I've used a new-to-me set, Amazing Daisy, by Stamps By Me, along with a sentiment from Swedish House.

Our sponsor this month is the fabulous Uniko, and they are offering these three stamp sets and a stencil for one lucky random winner:

I decided not to use any colour (wot, no Distress Inks?!?!?!) and let the images speak for themselves. Simply stamped with Versafine Onyx Black on white card, and a sentiment from Art Marks.

I'm entering this into Simon Says Wednesday Challenge - Use More Than One Stamp

Seize The Birthday - Patterned Paper

It's time for another Seize The Birthday challenge, and this week we're using patterned paper.  I've a chocolate sundae using Apple Blossom's Fizz!Pop!Party! set.  The offcut of woodgrain served as a counter, and I added a gold diecut sentiment from CUTplorations.

Pop on over to the Seize The Birthday blog for some fabulous inspiration from the team, and our Surprise Party Guest, SonjaK from Art of Stamping.  If you're not into patterned paper, you can still play along with any birthday-themed project.

Muse Christmas Visions 100th Challenge Christmas Party

It's Muse Christmas Vision's 100th challenge, and I could't let it pass without playing along.  Here's the muse card for this challenge, provided by Chriss:

Muse
I went with the poinsettias, swooshed background and large sentiment bottom-right, but did a negative print using an embossing folder and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.  The diecut sentiment (Concord & 9th) provides the pop of colour.

One more card for the Christmas card stash!  Why not play along - there's prizes to be won!

Butterfly Twofer

This month's Twofer challenge is all about butterflies, so how could I not play along with my Layered Butterflies set??

I made the first card for the CAS Watercolour Challenge - Rainbow, then realised I hadn't watercoloured, I'd sponged and spritzed.  Duh!  But I am entering it into AAA Cards - Inspired By Nature. The inspiration came from something I found on Pinterest.

ETA: Apparently it does qualify for CAS Watercolour Challenge, so I'm in there!

My second card came about from using one of my new toys from my trip to Port Sunlight on Saturday, an 8x11 Stampendous Creative Palette (basically a gel plate, thinner than the Gelli Plate, and crucially at half price).  I used Dylusions paints on the palette, and also stencilled with them using STAMPlorations stencils.  I stamped the butterfly then coloured it with coloured pencils, making a pattern on the wings as I went.  The sentiment is also from STAMPlorations.

I'm adding this one to the Simon Says Monday challenge - Stencil It.

STAMPlorations Inspiration #174

It's all about Things With Wings on the STAMPlorations blog.  We've got a month-long blog hop and linky party, check it out here.

Throughout the month all wing-themed products are 15% off - no coupon needed.  And if you use my code STAMPGIRLSHIRLEY you'll get another 20% off.

For today's card I diecut a CUTplorations Dragonfly from Oxide-smooshed photo paper, and used a part of a Bloomtangled #1 Coverplate diecut for a bit of white-on-white detail.  The sentiment is from Noteworthy.  I attached the dragonfly just by the body, and tilted the wings slightly.  Here's a closer look:

Seize The Birthday - It's Just a Number

It's a new challenge at Seize The Birthday, and this time it's Just A Number.  If you haven't got a numbered birthday card to hand, you can still play along with any birthday-themed project.

I've used one of my all-time favourite Penny Black stamps, spritzing the first stamping, letting it dry, then re-stamping for a sharp image.  It's useful to have a stamping platform for this technique, but not essential as the first stamping becomes so blurred that it doesn't matter if the second stamping isn't perfectly aligned.

Pop on over to the Seize The Birthday blog for some fab inspiration from the design team, and our surprise party guest, SonjaK, and play along with us.

Today I've used the large outline stamp from Layered Butterflies.  I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black, then sloshed on some Distress Re-inkers in Carved Pumpkin and Pickled Raspberry, and blasted it with an air duster.

Seize The Birthday - No Topping

It's time for Seize The Birthday, and it's an Anything Goes challenge, so as long as it's birthday-themed, you're in!

I'm on a roll with Jane Davenport faces at the moment.  I've been making 'selfie' cards using the DIY Face stamp set.  You stamp the face outline and you have a choice of eyes, mouths and noses to create your own Identikit face - great fun!  I used a smartphone die (Kelly Purkey - discontinued?) and a new sentiment die from STAMPlorations.

Layered Butterflies, Part 2

I'm over on the STAMPlorations blog playing with my newest set, Layered Butterflies.  Last week, I focused on the smaller butterfly stamps, and this is the group photo that you should have seen in last week's post.

Instead, you saw the group post for today's focus, the larger stamps.

So last week you got a sneaky sneak peek, and this week you get double bubble.  Next week you'll see how I've mixed, matched, added and subtracted the two sizes of stamps.

Pop on over to the STAMPlorations blog for a full view.  Next week is the official launch, and there'll be a chance for you to win this set by leaving a comment on the blog post.  If you can't wait till then, they're already in the store, and if you use my code STAMPGIRLSHIRLEY you'll get 20% off.
