More Baubles

I posted a similar card a few days ago that had Christmas baubles on it, and got a few comments about the word "baubles", which doesn't seem to be used across the Pond. Heather T (an ex-pat Aussie living in Canada, who is the Queen of Sponging and Masking) had also commented on her blog about the amusement caused by her use of the word. So my question is, what on earth do you call them if you don't call them baubles? Ornaments? (They're the things that collect dust on your mantlepiece or shelf.  All right then, MY mantlepiece or shelf.)  Er, do you say mantlepiece?

This bauble is from Penny Black, as is the sentiment.  The colour scheme is from The Play Date Cafe's current challenge:

I'll also make this my third entry to Simon Says Anything Goes before it closes.

  4. Giggling!!!! I call them ornaments (Canada) and probably would call it just a mantle. And the things you call ornaments, I call 'dust collectors'. Another great card - what a cool image and again, I'm getting a 3D vibe...

  5. We say something like chotskies for things that sit around and collect dust. Here we use baubles more for jewelry like beads & baubles. For Christmas trees we say ornaments or balls - at least here. And we would just say mantle. :) Beautiful Christmas card with these colors! Thanks for joining us at The Play Date Cafe.

  8. It's definitely baubles for me! Love the card and the colours - good colours for an Aussie christmas! Thanks for your commiserations re: footy - at least it was an exciting game for all! My hubby comes from Scotland and 1st lived in Hawthorn when he moved to Melb. My family go for Melbourne, who haven't done well for years, so he chose to follow Hawthorn.
