Seize The Birthday - Use Your Initials

Hi, Our latest challenge at Seize The Birthday is up and running.  Glenda's chosen the theme - use your initials.

I've gone for S for silver and B for blooms.

I treated myself to a Spellbinders Glimmer foil machine, and so far, I've had mixed results.  I've tried every type of card, and settled on one that gives the best results, bu it's still very hit and miss.  I can use the same sentiment on the same card twice in succession and get different results.  Fortunately the bad bits all get cut away with the die.  So I wasn't hopeful at all with my first attempt at the splatter because I wouldn't be able to cut anything away, but to my surprise it turned out perfectly.  So I didn't try again, haha :)

The floral stamp and die is from Altenew.

Pop on over to the Seize The Birthday blog to see how the design team and our surprise guests have used their initials, then join in using your initials - or if you'd rather not, just play along with any birthday themed project.

  2. Absolutely gorgeous Shirley! I know what you mean about the foiling - I too find it a bit hit and miss. The splatter is wonderful. I think some brands are better than others.

  3. I had the same issues when I started to foil, Shirley, but I kept trying and one day, it just seemed to work out. Still have to re-do sometimes, but it does get better. Your foiled sentiment looks beautiful here as does the rest of this lovely design. Your inking and spattering is wonderful. Love the colors you used.

  5. I see you jumped on the foil train. I have had more good luck than bad when it comes to foiling but I did have one day that nothing went well. I do find I have more problems with the sentiments than I do the large backgrounds. I also got a tip from Stef Perry and she said, " Before you put the foil and cardstock down, to disengage the platform so you don't shake it while moving it." I thought that was a brilliant tip. Your card is gorgeous. I too have that sentiment. Good luck going forward!

  8. Love that flower, the gold splatters look perfect! I have resisted the temptation to get a foil machine, love the results, but I don't know if I'm ready to face the learning curve of it. Thanks for having me as your party guest for this fun challenge!

  9. Shirley, the cards is a beauty! I love your splatters, they always make me a little nervous too. I have been known to get big blobs right where they shouldn't be! Your flower is gorgeous and your sentiment is perfect!
