Back To The Homework

Quick post from me - I'm on my way out to stamping club.  Two cards for Online Card Class homework.  The first is for Day 7, painting over a stamped image.

This second one is freehand painting - look at all that splatting!  I hand-wrote the sentiment, so not a stamp in sight.

We Interrupt Our Schedule...

Although Mother's Day in the UK is in March, my kids live in Australia, so we celebrate Mother's Day on Australian time.  Most mums get flowers or chocolates for Mother's Day, but my kids decided they wanted to get me something that little bit different.  They put a lot of thought into it, and surprised me with: my own domain name.  So I can now also be found at www.shirley-bee.co.uk.  Hopefully for you (and for me) it's situation normal, you don't have to do a thing.  You will still get my posts as normal - but you will tell me if I start acting strangely, won't you?

Anyway.  I'm playing truant from Online Card Class because of this magazine picture, which coincided with the new ColourQ challenge:

and resulted in this card:

I stamped the Julie Nutting Doll in Versafine Onyx Black then sloshed some Evergreen Bough, Tumbled Glass and Walnut Stain Distress inks around, and used Adirondack Metallic Gold acrylic paint, watered down, for the crown and the distress flowers.

I'm also entering it into Simon Says Monday Challenge, M - for magazine inspiration.

Occasionally we get hot air balloons flying near our house on clear evenings (like I said, occasionally).  This evening one flew almost directly overhead, so I took about 30 photos.  Look at that blue sky!

And More Homework

I'm still on last week's lessons, Days 5 & 6 watercolouring stamped images.  My favourite thing!  For this one I sloshed around a few Distress Inks (Evergreen Bough, Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans) and coloured in the birdie (Dina Wakley), painted a bit of ground and added some stitching.  The background stamp is Tim Holtz and the sentiment is one of the new release stamp sets from STAMPlorations.

More Homework

Two more cards for the Online Card Class homework for Days 3 & 4: watercolour stamping.  This first one is also for ColourQ.  If you look closely, you can see the two shades of green on the leaves.

For this second one, I've used the colours from the current Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge.

  

Again, if you look closely, you'll see that the sentiment is purple.

Awash With Watercolour

Catching up on some homework for Online Card Class Day 1: watercolour backgrounds.  I embossed Penny Black Dots In Space and then used a selection of Distress Inks for the background.  The sentiment is from the new Sentiment Builders: Happy by STAMPlorations.

Reminder - Craft Stamper Take It, Make It Challenge - Potato Stamping

Are you playing along with Craft Stamper's Take It, Make It challenge?  We want you to create your own stamp - from a potato!  This is what I did with the other half of the potato from last week.

I carved some roses and leaves and squished some Worn Lipstick and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks onto an acrylic block to use as a palette, and painted the colour on to the potato.  Popped the panel up on a card, added some lace and ribbon and a sentiment from Clearly Besotted.

When I was at school, the October half term holiday was known locally as spud-bashing week.  All the local farmers took on schoolchildren (aged 13 upwards) to pick potatoes in their fields.  You had to knock the heavy black soil off the spuds.  Or you could go beetroot screwing.  You had to screw the tops off the beetroot.  That's what I did, and got a sprained wrist for my efforts.

When No.1 son was a nipper, he would zoom round the kitchen in his baby walker, grabbing potatoes from the vegetable rack on his way past, and would hurl them across the kitchen.  Either that or grab a packet of crisps in each hand and bash them together on his way round.

So grab a potato and come and join us!  You don't have to be a sculptor to have a go.  You could cut a really simple shape - a square, an oblong, or better still, a random shape and repeat print it to use as a background.  Just remember to include real stamping as well.  There's a fab prize, and the winner gets their project published in Craft Stamper Magazine and a guest designer appearance.  And there aren't many entries so far, so you'd be in with a really good chance of winning.  What are you waiting for?

Seize The Birthday - Flowers

Time for our latest challenge at Seize The Birthday, and this time it's an optional topping of flowers.

 

I stamped some silhouette flowers by Marion Emberson onto glossy card with Staz On, then created a landscape scene with encaustic wax.  (Three-minute video tutorial for a similar card I made here.)

The sentiment stamps are from the new release by STAMPlorations.
