His & Hers Day 2

I'm a day late with my homework, but I have a really good excuse, teacher, honest.  I was at college last night - the local catering college restaurant where the students were hosting a school dinners themed evening (fancy dress optional).  The food was fabulous - not a black-eyed spud or lump of gristle in sight.  School dinners have come on a long way since my day ;)

The theme for His & Hers Day 2 is birthdays.  I've used two sketches and landed somewhere in the middle.  The first one is The Paper Players:

And the second one is Fusion, where I've fused the sketch and the colour scheme from the photo:

Looking at my card, the paisley pattern is looking more and more like an octopus!

ETA:  Oops - missed the Fusion deadline!

For my male card, I took Cristina's inspiration, but instead of using vellum blocks, I painted the blocks with distress inks and a flat wash brush.

Sorry about the poor photos - I've been playing in the garden all afternoon, and by the time I'd finished making the cards, the light was fading.

  2. I'm loving the layered vellum ... over itself on the first and over those cool inked panels on the second!

Just wondering if you went in fancy dress to the school dinner do ... and if so, is there evidence?

  3. Great homework for Day 2, Shirley! I have to agree about the octopus, it does a little, and I thought, "how adorable!" It made me chuckle when I read what your wrote and I went back to take a closer look at the beautiful little flower embedded inside the paisley.

Your man card interpretation is brilliant!!

  4. I love your vivid colors on the paisley. And the three simple swipes of color on the masculine card is a wonderful effect!

  5. Love the paisley!! So bright and CAS! I think I might have to do an online class. Do you do it on your own or live? I guess with time diff I would be doing it after everyone else?

  6. Love the colors in the lady card! I think your paisley image could have roots in either Mexico or perhaps the Caribbean!

The three swooshes of paint is so totally a guy card! Hmmm...kind of like my DH paints the walls! Love the colors too!

Well done! Another A+ (even though you skipped out of class and handed in your homework late)
